Having disappeared from the horizon of fashion a few seasons ago, leather has made a powerful comeback on the catwalks for Spring-Summer 2011. The woman, dressed in leather and suede, reappears with new and updated feminine image, no longer just a ???rock chick???, but sensually aggressive and very elegant. Bad, very bad, the dark lady proposed by Herv??? Leger, Gucci and Burberry Prorsum prefers sharp black patent leather jackets, high heels, shiny leggings, for a total look that is nothing less than stunning. Among fetishism and extremism inspired details, this new icon moves with ease between skin and vinyl. In addition to the inspired trench by Matrix Hackermann Haider, rocker studs by Balmain and Jean Paul Gaultier, the easy rider trousers by Bottega Veneta, leather also spreads to the timeless sheath, away from the usual tasteful style, and now fabricated in the materials and in a choice of bright shades. Following closely behind comes the tight suit for men, as well as an infinite range of pleated, flounced, trapeze skirts. Not to be missed in the wardrobe for next summer is the suede parka in shocking colours, as proposed by Guy Laroche, Proenza Schouler, Loewe. But the real cult piece of the season will certainly be the leather hot pants: sexy, tight culottes from Haute, cute micro-shorts in candy colours by D & G. The classic studded biker jacket is given a new lease of life thanks to bi-colour inserts, and an opalescent effect and metallic decoration, while the total suede look of Hermes and Ralph Lauren set a new western-chic mood. And so as to not lose heart even during the summer season, there are the extreme proposals of designers such as Fendi and Yves Saint Laurent, who wrap their ethereal dresses in soft spencers and fur shrugs.
